Legless Man Climbs Kilimanjaro

With summertime getting into full swing, everyone is going into bathing suit panic mode. You want to look good in those trunks or that bikini, but getting that beach body requires extreme sacrifice and hours upon hours at the gym. As the temperature rises, it becomes harder and harder to motivate yourself. Let us here at your Used Chevrolet Dealer Indiana give you a little extra motivation.

Spencer West, a 31-year-old from Toronto, Canada, just finished an epic climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. The impressive part? The young man completed the entire 19,341 foot climb using only his hands!

A birth defect resulted in Mr. West having both legs amputated at the age of five. Doctors told Spencer that he would never be a functioning member of society but that hasn’t stopped him from living his life to the fullest. He worked out tirelessly for over a year to prepare his body for the brutal climb (less than 50% of attempts at the mountain are successful.) After a seven day climb, all that work was worth it though. Here’s how Mr. West describes it:

“The moment the summit was within sight was incredible. The summit sign seemed almost like a mirage. We looked around and realised that, after seven gruelling days of relentless climbing, after 20,000 feet of our blood, sweat, tears and vomit we had actually made it.The bleeding fingers and blisters were all worth it.”

Spencer West’s story is certainly incredible…keep it in mind next time you don’t feel like hitting the gym.
