Local “Idol” Contestant is Showing that She Can Make It

Perhaps we are looking at the next American Idol here?

What’s that old saying? Is it third times the charm? Well, for Brandy Neelly, we are hoping this fourth time is the charm in her quest to be the next American Idol. If this teen country singer from Liberty Township can last one more week in Fox’s famous competition, they she will be sitting amongst the 13 finalists singing for our votes. “I’m not nervous about my performance. I feel really prepared,” says Neelly, the young 19 year old who is here on break from Eastern Kentucky University to do the TV show. Maybe we can get her to perform at the  Cincinnati car dealerships after the show is over? We aren’t sure if any could hold all of her fans, though (like the girls you hear about in the video)!

Neelly will be singing on this year’s first live show tomorrow night from 8-10 p.m. on channel 19 with the 14 other remaining women. The 15 remaining men will be singing 8-10 p.m. on Wednesday, and then the judges; Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr.; will announce finalists at 8 p.m. on Thursday. “I’m more nervous about what could possibly happen. The big cut is very scary and very intimidating,” she said. For the past three years, she could not get past the Hollywood Round, but it has been her dream for the past 10 years to do so.

“My grandfather noticed my talent when I was about 9, and got me out singing,” she said. “He told me that if he was able, he’d take me to ‘American Idol.’” He did just that back in 2010 when Brandy was just 15. Fans of the show may actually remember that they profiled her last year. Remember that Louisville high school student who was adopted at 6 months old by her aunt? “Idol” hasn’t as it would seem, as they have made no mention of it yet, or her past three attempts. “I feel like they want to present me as a new contestant. They’re trying to re-invent the show this year, and probably don’t want to draw attention to what they’ve done in the past,” she said, referring to Fox adding Lopez and Connick Jr. to replace judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson. Whatever the case, let’s keep our hopes up and cheer on Brandy tomorrow night!
