Class Ring

High School years can be both the best and worst four years of a person’s life. They are filled with milestones like getting a driver’s license, going to prom, getting a first boyfriend or girlfriend, and many other things that can make high school an incredible experience. On the flip side, high school can also bring out humiliation, embarrassment, and the awkward task of “finding yourself” in a sea of other pimply-faced adolescents. Your Ford dealers in Cincinnati know all too well the highs and lows a high school student can encounter, and love to hear positive stories from that time in a persons life.

For Dick Diedrich, high school came to a close in 1949 in Cicero, a town just outside of Chicago’s city limits. Getting his class ring and gifting it to his high school sweetheart was one of the highlights of Diedrich’s time at J. Sterling Morton High School. Unfortunately, the ring disappeared one afternoon in 1949 when his girlfriend at the time took it off to wash her hands, and forgot to put it back on. When she returned, the ring was gone. Diedrich hadn’t seen his ring since.

Now 82 years old, Diedrich has been married for 60 years to his high school sweetheart. They had all but forgotten about the class ring that was lost some 63 years ago, until they got a phone call from a man in Waukesha, Wisconsin who claimed to have possession of the jewelery. Mike Geiger had found the ring while using his metal detector on the shores of a lake in Wisconsin. Although Diedrich has no idea how the ring got to the sandy shores of the lake, or what kind of journey it went on in the past 63 years, he is just happy to have the ring back in his possession.
