Chevrolet 2017 Warranty Coverage

May 31st, 2017 by

If you find yourself shopping for a new or used car, check out Chevy dealers in Dayton, Ohio. After all, Chevy’s great warranty coverage program on all new vehicles is worth exploring. Warranty coverage plans from auto manufacturers vary and quite possibly can be the biggest influence in the decision to purchase a new or used vehicle. Most used vehicles do not have a warranty that spans up to 36 months, unless: A- The vehicle is still covered by the original factory warranty, or B- The dealership offers an extended warranty either as an option, or as a courtesy to the consumer.

Chevrolet offers great warranty plans on new Chevrolets. Here are the details…

Bumper to Bumper. What Does that Mean?

Chevrolet offers their bumper to bumper warranty to all new 2017 Chevrolet cars or trucks, including crossovers, for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is a no-deductible “Limited” warranty in which Chevrolet will cover any repairs, labor, or parts related to defective materials or workmanship, (Workmanship usually implies a certain level of uniformity or a specific standard.) Normal maintenance is not covered under a bumper to bumper warranty, (brakes, oil changes, and sometimes even light bulbs.) Chevrolet will use either a new or rebuilt part for any repairs covered under the bumper to bumper warranty at their discretion. A towing service to the nearest authorized Chevrolet dealer is also covered, at no cost to the consumer if it is needed due to a warranted issue. The warranty will follow the car regardless of an ownership transfer until the 3 years or 36,000 miles mark has passed.

Powertrain Limited Warranty. A Huge Perk to Buying a New Car?

The powertrain limited warranty applies to the certain engine, transmission, and other covered parts. Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers certain mechanical parts or systems on your new vehicle. The new powertrain limited warranty covers any Chevrolet vehicle built on or after the 2016 model year. It spans 5 years or 60,000 miles, again, whichever comes first. The powertrain limited warranty is the best part of buying a new vehicle because it covers so much of the important stuff. The systems covered are the engine, transmission or transaxle, transfer case, and drive systems.

Lots of critical components are covered under the engine, including oil, (plus the oil pump and the oil pump housing), timing components, valves, seals, gaskets, transmission, and or any other internal part which is lubricated. Many more engine components are covered as well.

Transmission/transaxle parts are covered, along with the torque converter, mounts, seals, gaskets, and internal electrical parts – plus many more. The transfer case is covered under any internal electrical parts, internally lubricated parts, mounts, seals, gaskets and, of course, certain others.

Chevrolet’s manufactured drive systems are covered by the limited powertrain warranty as well. Parts covered are any internally greased parts, components, drive housings, axle shafts and bearings, and propeller shafts, as well as universal joints. Again – any mounts, seals, gaskets and internal components are covered.

More info on specific parts covered under the engine, transmission/transaxle, transfer case, or drive system can be found in the Chevrolet Limited Warranty and owner assistance information book, or the website here: http://www.chevrolet.com/owners/warranty-details.html

Diesel and Business

Any new, (model 2016 and newer,) Heavy Duty pickup truck series 2500 or 3500 that has a 6.6L Duramax under the hood qualifies for an extended powertrain warranty. 5 years or 60,000 miles, (whichever comes first) is a bonus not afforded to other vehicles. The only other vehicles covered up to this 5 years, 60,000-mile coverage are certain fleet vehicles. Government or commercial fleet accounts qualify for this extended warranty program if the government or commercial entity has purchased or leased 5 vehicles, registered in the last year. Owning at least 15 vehicles, not including rentals, counts as well.

Rust On My New Car?

Let’s hope this never happens. If, for some unforeseen circumstance, rust is noticeable, I may be more concerned about what’s in the rain than about my car. However, in the case of a rust issue, Chevrolet has all sheet metal and body corrosion covered for up to 3 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. An additional protection from rust due to corrosion is guaranteed for 6 years or 100,000 miles.

Keep the Smog Down

Emissions systems are covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles on certain important parts. Standards differ by state, as required by law. In California, for example, emissions systems are covered for 7 years or 70,000 miles.

Important Exclusions

Tires are covered, but not how you would think. Tire tread wear is not covered. The tire coverage strictly relates to defects in materials or workmanship. Flats resulting from road hazards, scorned lovers, or car washes will not get your new car a new set of rubber shoes. Sorry.

Bedliners. The glossy sheen of your truck bed may fade. If it does, Chevrolet will not replace it.

The list of damages NOT covered are the usual suspects: fire, collision, explosion, riot, irresponsible teenage driving. Acts of god won’t get you a new Chevy either, not in the form of warranty coverage, anyway. Maybe your insurance policy will?

Voiding is Possible

Most people don’t even consider it, but certain things you do to with, or in, your vehicle could void the factory warranty before it expires. Making changes to or adding to the original factory’s vehicle equipment may result in a voided warranty. I would suggest consulting a certified Chevrolet dealer before adding aftermarket parts or accessories. These things can be done properly without voiding a warranty by having a certified Chevrolet technician do the work for you. If a private shop is used, make sure they will take responsibility for your warranty if Chevrolet will not.

Warranty Extras

A 3-month trial of the Onstar guidance plan, which gives the safety and security of automatic crash detection, navigation, roadside assistance, and remote unlock is an extra Chevy warranty perk.

In addition, a 5-year Onstar basic plan gives the owner OnStar advanced diagnostics, Smart driver, a dealer maintenance notification, and myChevrolet app access, which can remotely start/stop the engine, lock/unlock your car and flash the lights/horn from anywhere.

Chevrolet offers a special warranty protection program for Chevrolet vehicles. Chevrolet Complete Care protection gives you two scheduled free maintenance visits for oil changes, tire rotations, and a multi-point inspection to assure everything is running smoothly
