Chevy & truTV Launches ‘Motor City Masters’
Whether you live right here in Cincinnati, or across the border in Indy, Chevy dealers and fans alike are excited to check out Chevy’s most recent partnership with truTV. Chevrolet is no stranger to the television stage, and this time they are taking a design competition concept to the next level.
“Motor City Masters” aired for the first time on June 24, to an interested audience. Contestants on the show use cars as their design palette to come up with the best concepts possible. Specially trained technicians take the designs from the contestants, and bring them to life on the cars. Each week, a different challenge will be assigned to participants, who have to wow judges Harold Belker and Jean Jennings. Belker got his fame from working on the Smart Car design, as well as the “Batman and Robin” Batmobile. Jennings is an independent automotive journalist, who was the previous editor-in-chief of Automobile Magazine.
First Episode, First Impressions
The first hour-long episode was based not on the actual Motor City, but rather in Los Angeles. The winning prize of $100,000 and a brand new 2014 Camaro Z/28 was announced to the contestants, which of course will be awarded to only one victor.
In the first challenge on Tuesday’s episode, designers are sent to the drawing board to impress judges with their signature sketches. The results ranged from professionally sleek, to rather unprofessional simple drawings. Later in the show, the contestants are split into teams with the task of designing a 2015 Chevy Concept car out of a car that already exists. Teams had the choice of a Chevy Cruze, or the Chevy Malibu and were given three days to complete the challenge.
All in all, the show is interesting, and will inspire those who are compelled into car design. The show airs Tuesday nights on truTV at 10pm. Be sure to watch out for guest judges including Melissa Joan Hart, Pete Wentz, and Bobby Gordon in upcoming episodes.
