Certified Pre-Owned Chevy
Chevrolet’s dedication to its customers is evident in their dedication to designing vehicles that are safe and built according to customers’ needs and wants. However, there is another way Chevy shows its commitment to its customers. That commitment is shown through the certified pre-owned (CPO) program, which debuted in 2011. The manufacturer has oversight over the program, but local Chevy dealerships are responsible for implementing it. Over time, the program has been refined to best meet the needs of Chevy owners.
Certified pre-owned vehicles are defined as vehicles that are fewer than six years old and have been driven less than 75,000 miles. To receive the CPO certification, vehicles go through a rigorous testing process. Authorized and trained technicians put the vehicle through an in-depth, 172-point inspection to ensure every vehicle meets the manufacturer’s factory standards. During this inspection, several key factors must be met. The vehicle must not show any signs of flood damage or exposed rust on the exterior. The vehicle also must not show any signs of previous accidents. It should be factory reconditioned.
The dealership will take care of routine maintenance, such as changing the oil and filters. CPO status does not guarantee everything will be changed or replaced, but if any vehicle fluids or parts are near the point of needing to be replaced or changed, the dealership will go ahead and take care of those concerns proactively.
Dealerships also research vehicle recall information. If a vehicle has outstanding factory-recall repairs, that vehicle is set aside so technicians can take care of those repairs before it continues the inspection process and is eventually listed and sold.
The warranties are the core components of the CPO program. There are two main types of warranties.
Chevrolet offers a one-year/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. The warranty begins immediately after a CPO vehicle is purchased. However, if the vehicle is still under factory warranty at the time of purchase, the vehicle is covered for the remainder of that warranty. Once the factory warranty expires, the CPO bumper-to-bumper warranty begins to cover the vehicle. Both the factory warranty and CPO are transferable between owners. Therefore, owners are afforded a smooth transition in accessing both the factory warranty as well as the CPO warranty.
Chevrolet offers new car owners a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. However, if a new car transitions to and is accepted into the CPO program, that warranty is upgraded to a six-year/100,000-mile warranty. With this upgrade, Chevrolet affords customers the peace of mind that if there’s a need for a major repair, they can take their vehicle to their local dealership’s service department to have the mechanical issue taken care of without thinking about having to break the bank to pay for it.
And if you still need another reason to appreciate Chevy’s CPO warranty, there is one very important one we’ve yet to mention. Chevrolet does not charge a deductible for any warranty claims made on a CPO vehicle. If you have ever had to make a claim, you know deductibles are required most of the time. This is one more way Chevy makes owning and maintaining a quality, used vehicle affordable.
Additional CPO Benefits
Now that we’ve reviewed the CPO program’s core component let’s look at some additional benefits Chevrolet has included for customers who choose to buy a certified pre-owned vehicle.
The CPO program provides another warranty that sets it apart from similar programs offered by other vehicle manufacturers. Chevy gives its customers a two-year/24,000-mile free factory maintenance warranty.
Every vehicle has a standard factory-recommended maintenance schedule. It’s more comprehensive than simply making sure you change the oil or rotate the tires. These factory recommendations are provided to help ensure the vehicle is consistently kept in good working order. These recommendations include major vehicle systems, such as the engine, transmission, and coolant system. They also include other auxiliary components, such as brake pads and rotors, as well as the timing belt. Chevrolet realizes that its customers already have enough on their plates. They shouldn’t have to worry about when they need to flush the coolant system.
We’ve all been there. You like something one moment, but the more you think about it, you decide that whatever that “something” is that you initially liked no longer appeals to you. Well, the same scenario can play out when it comes to a vehicle purchase.
Chevrolet allows CPO customers the option to exchange their vehicle if for any reason they are not satisfied with it. Every customer can return their current vehicle for another GM CPO program vehicle within three days or 150 miles, whichever is greater. Though this is not a guarantee of returning any money, it allows the customer to hopefully leave the dealership with a vehicle they are satisfied with, and hopefully, they will be satisfied with that vehicle for a long time.
CPO vehicle owners also have access to several tech features. Chevrolet gives owners access to a three-month free trial of SiriusXM satellite radio. Customers are not only able to enjoy listening to their favorite music, but they can also enjoy listening to sports news and talk radio.
Additionally, Chevy CPO vehicle owners can drive with confidence knowing they have a three-month free trial of OnStar. OnStar provides access to roadside assistance. If you get a flat tire, OnStar can make sure a trained mechanic will be dispatched to you to take care of the flat tire and have you on your way. In case of a medical emergency, you can rest assured medical personnel will be on their way as soon as possible. In the unfortunate situation that your vehicle is stolen, OnStar can activate the Stolen Vehicle Tracker system to assist law enforcement in locating your vehicle. OnStar will also alert law enforcement and other first responders if you are involved in a collision.
Having OnStar representatives supporting you through an emergency can make all the difference in helping you get through the situation.
CPO vehicle owners are also provided with a snapshot of vehicles’ history courtesy of a free CARFAX report. This report will show items such as the vehicle’s service history, vehicle ownership (dealership names are listed; however, individual names are designated as “vehicle owner”), recall notifications, and any accidents.
You cannot discuss the added benefits Chevy’s CPO program offers and not go over the available financing option. The program offers low-interest loans to customers considering a CPO vehicle. In fact, Chevy offers rates as low as 1.9 percent for customers with a good credit rating. If you’re in the market for a CPO vehicle or you just want more information regarding financing, visit or call your local Chevy dealership.
Chevrolet also extends additional benefits to CPO vehicle owners when the need to service their vehicles arises. Free courtesy transportation is provided during service visits to your local dealerships. The available transportation options are based on the dealership, the dealership’s location, and the timing. Depending on the aforementioned variables, free courtesy transportation can range from a free shuttle van to reimbursement for a rental car to free tickets for public transportation. Chevy affords you the opportunity to handle your daily obligations and stick to your daily routine while your local dealership takes care of your vehicle
